As this happens more of the Swimfin will become visible as it comes out of the water.
The less of the SwimFin in the water, the less the amount of support it is providing, adjusting the buoyancy level automatically in direct relation to the ability of the swimmer.
However, the moment the head is lifted, the legs and hips will sink and the Swimfin once more becomes fully submerged, suspending the swimmer and allowing them to return to a vertical position as in Level 1.
Simply turn the swimmer onto their back teaching them to float unaided in a starfish position.
SwimFin is now providing maximum support from below whilst encouraging balance and core strength without the need for any additional buoyancy.
Swimfin will assist in the return to the safe vertical position by simply rolling them on to their fronts, which then allows the legs and hips to sink, once more suspending them in the vertical position or allowing them to stand.
It will not create drag and impede movement through the water, acting more like a keel on a yacht, stabilising the swimmer and improving direction.
It also acts as a handle to help support the swimmer until they have found their balance and improved stability, without them knowing you are doing so.
Because Swimfin is a natural streamlined shape it will not create drag and impede movement through the water.
Again, the moment the head is lifted, the legs and hips will sink and the Swimfin will once more find the correct level of support, suspending the swimmer or allowing them to stand, as in Level 1 and 2.
This allows the legs and hips to sink, therefore suspending the child in a vertical position without tipping them dangerously forward and their head remains clear of the water.
The SwimFin is completely submerged providing maximum support.
Unlike armbands, because Swimfin is on the back, it does not restrict any arm or leg movement.
The swimmer now learns to use both arms and legs together in a doggie paddle with a bicycle kick.
Knowing that they are not going to sink, the beginner’s confidence levels will soar and they will now be more readily prepared to try and learn more advanced steps.
While these swimmers are water-safe, Swimfin assists with the correct level of support when needed preventing sinking and panic, allowing more time for the swimmers to think about what they are doing, slowing down the process initially and ensuring that the correct technique and synchronisation is learned from the outset.
It will an important visual aid for both teachers and swimmers alike, some examples include :
•Indicating excessive shoulder roll in crawl.
•Preventing over rotation of the body when breathing in crawl.
•Stimulating the dolphin motion in butterfly.
•Assists in lifting the shoulders in butterfly.
•Stability and direction in backstroke.
•Rotation and direction in forward rolls.
Do the straps come supplied?
Yes, every SwimFin comes with a standard size set of straps, which fit the average child.
Does Swimfin come in different sizes?
No. Swimfin only comes in one size and will comfortably support children from two years old right through to adults.
Does the position in which the SwimFin is worn change for different levels of ability?
No! The SwimFin must remain above the centre of gravity on the upper back, between the shoulder blades for all levels of swimmers.
Worn this way it will always allow the legs and hips to sink, returning the swimmer to a safe vertical position in the water.
How do you deliver SwimFins purchased online?
We send them via the Post Office’s Speed Service Couriers and delivery to your local post office normally takes three working days. You will need to check with and pick it up from there.
I am worried that the straps are too easy to undo, what can I do?
Fasten the strap normally to the child. Now swivel / pull the strap around the chest so that the fastened Velcro slots into the notch in the SwimFin.
Now out of reach behind their back it cannot be undone!
The straps are too big or have stretched, is there anything that can be done?
Yes, pinch a loop in the soft / hoop Velcro part of the strap then fasten as usual with the hook / rough side of the Velcro fastening across the loop.
The loop you have made shortening the strap will now sit flush against the chest. OR, make a flat untightened half-knot in the plain elasticated part of the strap and then fasten as usual.
Replacement straps are also available online or contact us for further assistance.
The straps are too small, is there anything that can be done?
Since more and bigger children and adults are learning with SwimFin, we now manufacture larger straps which are available.
Please feel free to contact us to discuss your requirements if unsure.
What is the youngest age SwimFin is suitable for?
We recommend that Swimfin should not be used on children younger than two years old.
Swimfin has been standard tested for children of 15 to 30 kg mass, which applies to an average child between 3 and 6 years of age.
However, no actual standard exists that is compatible for SwimFin, as it is so unique.
We receive regular feedback from parents and Swimming Instructors about two year-olds that have used SwimFin very successfully, including adults and special needs swimmers
•Rule 1 - How should SwimFin be fitted?
Above the centre of gravity at the top of the back between the shoulder blades.
As a guideline we suggest the top strap fits across the nipple area or just underneath the arms around the top of the chest.
•Rule 2 - Can SwimFin be worn on the chest?
No, No. Definitely No!
Doing this makes returning to a standing or upright position difficult for swimmers placing them in a potentially dangerous situation.
Will Swimfin tip the swimmer dangerously forward?
No. Because Swimfin is worn above the centre of gravity on the upper back between the shoulder blades, it allows the hips and legs to sink, therefore suspending the child in the water in a vertical position with their head out of the water.
Even when they are learning to swim whenever the child lifts their head they will return to this vertical position and be suspended in the water by Swimfin, or be able to stand.
